Orbit Marine Services

Marine Services

From our operations center in Norrköping, Sweden, we bring together expertise in international shipping, marine meteorology, voyage optimization, vessel performance, client operations, product development and software engineering.

Several members of the team have worked within marine meteorology, weather routing and voyage optimization for more than 20 years. Together, the team has more than 150 years of maritime and marine domain experience, supported by extensive experience in developing and operating the technology, vessel performance models and decision-support tools used in our services.

This experience is applied every day through operational support of vessels trading worldwide. We work in this industry because we genuinely care about making it better.

What we do

We support vessels and shore-based teams throughout the sea passage, from initial planning and route optimization to continuous monitoring, rerouting and post-voyage performance analysis.

We see voyage optimization as an ongoing advisory and decision-support process, not a one-time route calculation.

Every voyage is different. Vessel characteristics, weather, forecast confidence, operational constraints, schedule and commercial objectives all influence what constitutes the best decision at a particular point in time.

Our role is therefore broader than finding the theoretically optimal route. It is about understanding the voyage, identifying what matters and supporting the Master and shore organization with relevant and actionable advice as conditions develop.

From the time your ship leaves port until it reaches its destination, we’ll be there for you and your team.

How we work

We combine MetOcean data and forecasts, vessel performance, technology and experienced human judgment.

Technology allows us to process large amounts of information, monitor changing conditions and evaluate different alternatives. Our specialists assess which information is relevant, where the main risks and uncertainties lie and when further human assessment is needed.

We provide clear and actionable decision support, explain the reasoning behind our recommendations and adapt our advice when conditions or voyage requirements change.

Safety and operational feasibility form the basis of every recommendation. Within these boundaries, we support the customer’s voyage objectives, whether the priority is reliable arrival, fuel efficiency, weather risk, commercial requirements or overall voyage performance.

Our philosophy

We use technology where it works well and human expertise where it adds the most value.

Not every sea passage, weather situation or decision requires the same level of human involvement. We use technology and automation for efficient and continuous assessment, while applying specialist knowledge where weather risk, operational complexity, uncertainty or the potential consequences require closer attention.

This allows people and technology to do what each does best.

We also understand the importance of using resources wisely, whether those resources are time, fuel, money or people. The value of our service comes from the interaction between experienced specialists, reliable data and effective technology.

Our objective is to support safer, more predictable and better-informed voyage decisions.

Safety. Predictability. Punctuality.
